PhD student (TVL-E13/65%) or Postdoc (TVL-E13) position (f/m/d) in Immune Monitoring of Therapeutic Vaccination against chronic Hepatitis B (14.11.2025)

In an EU-funded project for evaluating the efficacy of therapeutic vaccination against chronic hepatitis B (TherVacB), we are performing cutting-edge immune monitoring of virus-specific CD8 and CD4 T cells in phase Ib/IIa clinical trials (Clinical Trial ID NCT06513286). This in-depth characterization of vaccination-induced antiviral immunity entails spectral flow cytometry and scRNA/TCR-seq analysis. Multimodal analysis of virus-specific T cells is achieved through ex vivo restimulation and functional evaluation by flow cytometry, as well as HLA-Multimers, to allow for transcriptional profiling and T cell receptor analysis to determine clonal expansion.

The position is part of an interdisciplinary Immune Monitoring team formed by the Institute of Virology and the Institute of Molecular Immunology (both located at the TUM University Hospital Rechts der Isar on the city campus of TUM), working in close cooperation with our partners at the clinical trial sites in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with either a master´s degree or a PhD in immunology. Experience in immunology and, in particular, in working with CD8 and CD4 T cells, knowledge in high-parametric (spectral) flow cytometry and cell sorting, and performance of single-cell experiments for subsequent RNA/TCR-seq analysis are required. PhD candidates will be integrated into the TUM Graduate School, which offers a structured framework for the acquisition of wet lab, bioinformatic, and soft skills.

We offer excellent working conditions, cutting-edge lab equipment, training in bioinformatic analysis of scRNA/TCR-seq, as well as a dynamic team and vibrant atmosphere. The data acquired in this project should be presented at national and international conferences.

The position is available from April 1st, 2026. Interested candidates should send a letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, and at least two reference letters (or the referees’ contact info) as a single document.
